Egypt Praises Palestinian Central Bank (PMA) Performance

 Dr. Jihad Khalil Al-Wazir -Governor of the Palestine Monetary Authority, accompanied by Mr. Azzam Shawwa- Chairman of the Association of Banks in Palestine, met Dr. Farouk El-Okdah - Governor of the Central Bank of Egypt to discuss the regional economic conditions and the Palestinian case, in particular. Dr. Al-Wazir expressed PMA’s gratitude to the CBE for the continuous cooperation and support in various areas agreed upon in the memorandum of understanding signed in the year 2010.

Dr.El-Okdah has praised the PMA’s performance in West Bank and Gaza, and its ability to rise above the political division and exercise its duties to maintain monetary and financial stability in Palestine despite persistent political instability. Dr. El-Okdah also commended the supervisory role the PMA plays, which fosters the stability of the banking sector in Palestine. On the other hand, ongoing cooperation with PMA and the implementation of the joint MOU have been affirmed. Dr. Al-Wazir also guaranteed continuous PMA efforts in empowering and reinforcing the role and work mechanisms of banks operating in Palestine, which would contribute to the social development and sustainable growth in the Palestinian economy.

Its worth mentioning, that the MOU aims at developing means of joint cooperation between Palestine and Egypt, mainly in the banking supervision field, where this memorandum has set basic principles that regulate information exchange, in order to maintain sound and stable banking systems in both countries, including branches operating in Gaza Strip.
